About Mark Banaag
I like making things move and making things that move people. Whether digital or print, design has the ability to get people to move with their eyes first.
Cartoons moved me at a young age to appreciate the power of design in storytelling and human connection. Today, I’m moved and inspired by both the profound—like relationships between people and communities—and the simple—like the luxury of a perfectly sharpened Tombow Mono 100.
While I consider myself a life-long creative, my journey to art direction, design, and motion graphics began unconventionally as a preschool teacher. The time in the classroom strengthened the skills I strive to employ with every project: empathy, conviction, and passion.
Now, I appreciate the purpose behind design: to marry truth and emotion so effectively that it moves people to act or reflect. Design should be a pleasing, natural experience. To this end, I take the time to understand the goal behind every ask and task—the emotion and purpose. I draw concepts in a sketchbook before drafting on a computer, because the relationship of pencil to paper has tremendous creative impact. Throughout the creative process, I work closely with stakeholders and clients to bring their goals, needs, and their purpose to life—to move people.
Let’s connect. Let’s make people move.
